a world-class short game practice facility
At Effingham, we understand that playing golf has it’s ups and downs. Mastering the short game can be a great equalizer as it’s where scores are either made or broken.
So we proudly announce the opening of one of England’s finest, largest and most extensive short-game practice areas on 27 May 2024.
Featuring a 1250 square metre short game academy green with
12 distinct hitting zones to provide a variety of practice scenarios
and a 450 square metre putting green adjacent to the chipping area and 1st tee to allow the perfect warm up before your round.
Highly acclaimed architect James Edwards was commissioned to design one of his in-demand ‘short game academies’, which have received rave reviews across the country.
At Effingham, Edwards Design International has built one of their largest practice areas to date, sculpturing the land to reflect the dynamic downland terrain of the course.
Constructed by the esteemed Conor J Walsh, and the renowned Rain Bird irrigation system has also been installed.
Endless opportunities to experiment with putting, pitching, chipping and bunker play, along with two new practice nets and a state-of-the-art cleaning station for shoes and trolleys.
Effingham’s Short Game Practice Area is an all-weather facility that will help you improve your game through practicing a variety of shots for varying positions.
Designed by legendary architect Harry Colt in 1927, Effingham’s par-71 course is blessed with unique views across the London skyline. In 2018, Tom McKenzie completed the extensive renovation project across the course’s bunkers, restoring them in line with Colt’s philosophy. Effingham Golf Club boasts almost a century of history in the heart of Surrey, and after extensive investment in recent times, is recognised by Golf World as one of England’s Top 100 golf courses.
Jonathan Kaltner, the new General Manager of Effingham Golf Club, said: “We are very excited to open our new world-class Short Game Practice Area, bringing the calibre of our pre-round practice facility in line with Harry Colt’s incredible course.”
